How many tiles for your room?
Enter the room dimensions and the tile size: the tool computes the surface, the number of tiles with a cutting margin, the number of boxes and, if you wish, the total cost.
-
Measure the room
Length and width in metres.
-
Set the tile
Width and height in centimetres.
-
Add the margin
10% by default for cuts and breakage.
Example: 12 m² room, 30×30 tiles
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Surface | 4 m × 3 m = 12 m² |
| Area of one tile | 0.30 × 0.30 = 0.09 m² |
| Tiles (no margin) | 12 ÷ 0.09 = 133.3 |
| With 10% margin | 147 tiles |
| Boxes (11/box) | 14 boxes |
Everything is computed in your browser. The cutting margin covers offcuts; keep a spare box from the same batch.
Frequently asked questions
How is the number of tiles calculated?
The surface to cover is divided by the area of one tile, then the cutting margin is added and the result rounded up to the next tile. Example: 12 m² ÷ 0.09 m² (30×30 cm tile) = 133.3, i.e. 147 tiles with a 10% margin.
What cutting margin should I choose?
Allow about 10% for a straight layout, 15% for a diagonal layout or a complex-shaped room, and up to 20% for large-format tiles or a demanding pattern. The margin covers cuts and breakage.
Why buy whole boxes?
Tiles are sold by the box. The tool rounds up to the number of boxes needed and, if you enter a price, estimates the total cost. Buying a spare box from the same batch avoids shade differences for a future repair.
Should I deduct doors or furniture?
For a safe estimate, do not deduct small areas: the cutting margin absorbs them. For large untiled zones (island, bay window), compute the net surface and enter it directly.
