How is it calculated?
With the MET formula: calories = MET × weight(kg) × duration(h). MET (metabolic equivalent) measures an activity’s intensity relative to rest (1 MET). Walking is ~3.5 MET, running ~9.8 MET.
What is MET?
The “metabolic equivalent of task” expresses how much energy an activity uses compared to rest. 1 MET ≈ sitting still; 10 MET means ten times more. The higher the intensity, the larger the MET.
Is it accurate?
It is an estimate. Real expenditure depends on intensity, fitness, terrain, temperature and individual efficiency. Use it to compare activities, not as an exact measurement.
