Estimate the yarn for a project
Enter the grams needed and your ball’s specs (weight and length): the tool gives total meters and the number of balls.
The method
- Meters = (g ÷ ball weight) × ball length
- Balls = g ÷ ball weight, rounded up
- Always buy 1 spare ball
- Keep the same dye lot
Example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Yarn needed | 300 g |
| Ball | 50 g / 125 m |

Frequently asked questions
How do I estimate the grams needed?
Use the weight stated in the pattern, or weigh a similar finished project.
How do I convert grams to meters?
Meters = (grams ÷ ball weight) × ball length. E.g. 300 g, 50 g/125 m ball → 750 m.
How many balls should I buy?
Balls = grams ÷ ball weight, rounded up (300 ÷ 50 = 6 balls).
Should I add a margin?
Yes: always buy one extra ball, ideally from the same dye lot.
