Frequently asked questions
What is the leap year rule?
A year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4, except if it is divisible by 100 — unless it is also divisible by 400. So 2000 is a leap year, but 1900 is not.
Is 2024 a leap year?
Yes: 2024 is divisible by 4 and not by 100, so it has 366 days and a 29 February.
Why do we have leap years?
The solar year is about 365.2422 days. Adding a day every 4 years (with the 100/400 adjustment) keeps the calendar aligned with the seasons.
