Estimate an EV charge
Enter the capacity, the charging power, the start and target levels, and an efficiency. The tool estimates the charging time and the energy to charge.
The method
- Energy = capacity × (target − start) ÷ 100
- Time = energy ÷ (power × efficiency)
- Efficiency ~90% for losses
- Power = the one actually delivered
Example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Battery | 60 kWh |
| Charge | 11 kW · 20→80% |
| Energy | 36 kWh |
| Time | ≈ 3 h 38 |
Indicative estimate. 100% local calculation.
Frequently asked questions
How do I estimate the time?
Energy = capacity × (target − start) ÷ 100; time = energy ÷ (power × efficiency). E.g. 60 kWh, 20→80%, 11 kW, 90% ≈ 3 h 38.
Why an efficiency factor?
Charging is not perfect: losses in the cable, charger and battery. ~90% is a cautious value.
Why only up to 80% on fast charging?
On fast charging, power drops sharply beyond ~80% to protect the battery; the real time there is longer.
Which power should I enter?
The power actually delivered: limited by the station AND the onboard charger (often 7.4 or 11 kW on AC).
