Calculate an aquarium’s volume
Enter length, width and water height in cm. The tool gives the volume in liters and gallons (US and UK).
The formula
- Liters = L × W × H ÷ 1000 (cm)
- 1 L ≈ 0.264 US gal
- 1 L ≈ 0.220 UK gal
- Net volume: −10 to −15% (decor)
Example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | 60 × 30 × 40 cm |
| Volume | 72 L |
| US gallons | ≈ 19.0 |
| UK gallons | ≈ 15.8 |

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the volume?
Volume (L) = length × width × water height (in cm) ÷ 1000. E.g. 60 × 30 × 40 ÷ 1000 = 72 L.
Why use the water height?
Water doesn’t fill the whole tank: use the real water height, not the total tank height, for an accurate volume.
Gross or net volume?
This gives the gross volume. Decor, substrate and rocks reduce the real volume by about 10–15%.
Liters to gallons?
1 L ≈ 0.264 US gallon and ≈ 0.220 UK gallon. The tool shows both.
