Frequently asked questions
What does EXIF data contain?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) stores, inside the photo file, the camera make and model, the capture date, the settings (ISO, aperture, speed, focal length) and sometimes the exact GPS location. This information is written automatically by the camera or smartphone.
Why strip metadata before sharing?
A photo’s GPS coordinates can reveal your home or your habits. The “Clean” button removes the metadata segments (EXIF included) and re-downloads a lighter JPEG copy, without touching the image itself.
Are my photos sent to a server?
No. The file is read and parsed locally, byte by byte, in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, which makes the tool safe even for private or sensitive photos.
Why do some images have no EXIF?
Screenshots, converted or already-cleaned images, and most PNGs contain no EXIF. Many social networks also strip this data on upload. The tool then reports that no metadata was found.
