Where do the definitions come from?
From the open-source dictionaryapi.dev API, which aggregates data from open dictionaries (such as Wiktionary). It is free, key-free and requires no sign-up.
Which languages are supported?
English (the most complete), plus French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Japanese. Coverage varies by language: not every word has an entry yet.
Can I hear the pronunciation?
Yes. When an audio clip exists for the word, a play button appears next to the phonetic (IPA) transcription. Otherwise only the transcription is shown.
Is my search private?
Only the word you look up is sent to the dictionary API to fetch its definition. No account, no tracking and no other personal data is transmitted.
